CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

We empower you to make your life your own.

We use a practical, change-oriented model to help people make meaningful and lasting changes to their lives. We specialize in helping people for whom previous attempts to get help have failed.

To truly grow, one must leave behind patterns that do not work. When past painful experiences are not healed from, they continue to hurt in the present. Traumatic experiences can truly be healed.

We work to reduce the stress and worry in people’s lives while healing past and present traumas. Healing can reduce and often eliminate emotional and physical suffering so clients can live more joyful lives. We thus empower clients so they can make their lives their own.

Therapy services at The Center for Change & Healing integrate a wide variety of theories and models. Some of the therapy models CCH clinicians use include depth psychology, psychodynamic theories, family systems theory, structural family therapy, transactional analysis, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), existential therapy (logotherapy), and small group dynamics. The clinicians of CCH draw from other fields of study such as sociology, anthropology, political science, history, and others to help provide context for assessments and interpretations.

People who benefit from counseling and Therapy include those suffering from:

LIFE TRANSITIONS

Divorce, grief and loss, empty nest

EMOTIONAL ISSUES

Anxiety, depression, and anger

PARENT CONCERNS

Self-destructive adolescent behaviors

TRAUMATIC EVENTS

Unresolved in the past or the present

ISOLATION

A feeling of being disconnected

LACK OF FULFILLMENT

Job satisfaction, life fulfillment

We use a specialized, experiential model of treatment for adolescent clients.

Traditional counseling and therapy often fails with adolescents because it is a model created for adults watered down and applied to teenagers.

As teenagers are in a different developmental stage of life, the approach in counseling and therapy needs to be different as well. We work to help teenagers be more involved in life, build a foundation of competency, and learn to self-advocate, improving their self-confidence, reducing anxiety, and eliminating harm and destructive behaviors.

Sessions take place in the real world.

All sessions start and end at the office.  During the session, we may go to the park, get a snack, or something to drink.  In this way, teenagers are more engaged, get to have an experience, and are in a more natural setting.

This method also allows for real life, in real time teachings and intervention.

The teenager makes lasting changes.

The last thing most teenagers want is another adult telling them what to do.  In our model teenagers make changes not because they are told to, but by our guiding them to see themselves and the world a different way.  Not only is this effective in reducing and eliminating problems and issues, but the teenager also gains vital tools and core understandings which benefit our clients for the rest of their lives.

PEER groups PROVIDE SUPPORT.

Adolescents and teens develop an understanding of themselves based on their peers. Changes to how a teen sees themselves and the world comes even faster when they are seeing and hearing other teenagers working on similar endeavors. We provide an ongoing teen group to increase the impact of client individual sessions. Instead of using a one-size-fits-all curriculum, we design weekly groups to address the issues the teenagers are currently struggling with in their lives.

WE WORK WITH PARENTS, TOO.

We work with the parents to help create the changes needed for the youth to thrive. Parent sessions focus on providing tools and assisting with understanding the issue the youth is struggling with to allow for the parents help, reduce tension, and increase positive interactions.

WE HELP YOUTH WITH:

  • Building healthy identities — extremely beneficial for teens dealing with anxiety, depression, despair, and rage.
  • Anxiety, depression, or both. These youth need help with  despair and FEAR in order to truly change.
  • Anger management
  • Self-harming and destructive behaviors
  • Bullies and the bullied
  • Lacking or totally missing social tools and skills
  • Lost, troubled, unable to focus or be disciplined
  • Youth labeled with ADD, CD, ODD, OCD
